When Mario learns of the legendary Star Jewels, he embarks on a search for these fabled treasures, hoping to find the princess along the way.
Of course, Mario isn't the only one looking for the star jewels... and Bowser isn't the only antagonist causing trouble this time! Will our hero be able to find the ancient artifacts, open the Aeon Gate, and save the world?

A paper world full of surprises - In search of the Star Gems, you'll explore a world that extends far beyond the city limits of Rohlingen! You'll be amazed at what awaits you! A giant dragon hiding in a spooky castle, an enchanted village where eternal darkness reigns, highly exciting detective work on board a moving train and so much more!
Take advantage of Mario's paper skills as you move around and explore! Transform into a paper airplane to overcome chasms, or become thin as a sheet of paper to squeeze through a crack! On top of that, there are even more skills to discover!

A colourful mix of partners - On your journey, you'll meet a variety of different characters who will happily join you! Not only can they help you find the star jewels, but they can add a personal touch to your adventures!
Each of these characters has unique abilities. For example, Gumbrina can give you information about enemies or locations, with Koopio's help you can get to items that are actually out of your reach, and Madame Aerona blows away obstacles to uncover secret passages behind them. Plus, you can use these skills and more in battle to gain the upper hand over your opponents!

On the Stage of Battle - What to do if you run into enemies on your journey? Face them in turn-based combat and do your best to impress the discerning audience! Your many ways to achieve victory include attacks that can only be obtained by using special medals, and star attacks, which have the power of the Star Gems!
With the right timing when pressing the buttons, you can increase the strength of your attacks or reduce the damage taken while defending. The better you do, the more applause you'll get from the audience!
